Howzit! My name is Thomas Yamada, and I’m a media (film, TV, video game) and concert composer from Hawaii. I graduated from Chapman University with a degree in Music Composition and a minor in film music, where I scored numerous projects of varying genres for their Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Other student filmmaker collaborations include NYU, Stanford, and LMU.

Recent projects include scoring the winning Coca-Cola Refreshing Films commercial, “Ticket to Everywhere”, which is screening nationwide and in Canada in AMC and Cinemark theaters, conducting and recording an orchestra at Hollywood Scoring for a Dodge animated thesis, and interning as a music librarian at Warner Bros. Discovery, where I was able to learn the inner workings of the music department at a large media company.

When I write for the screen, it’s essential that I understand all aspects of the plot. Through that, I aim to leave a lasting impression through musical storytelling. I always read through the script but aim to go beyond surface-level emotions to intertwine the music with the picture. I think, “Deep down, what is this character feeling? What can I bring to the scene that’s not already there?”
