My name is Nate Barnett. I'm a composer and two-time Grammy-winning vocalist based in LA.

I got into this work because I want to reach people. I've spent much of my life in the classical music world - where the art is genuinely great but typically has a limited audience.

I am a collaborator at heart, and my priority is to work with the creative team to craft a score that elevates the picture as a whole. Like you, I want to create something that captures people - that reaches their hearts - that feels new. My music is in service of the story, whether that's expressing emotion, subtext, environment, or something else.

My scores combine traditional instruments with electronics, synths, and the human voice. I draw influence from minimalist composers such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Caroline Shaw, and David Lang, among others. I find their music does an extraordinary job of capturing and creating energy, and I think energy is everything. I'm also influenced by pop, jazz, and indie styles.

A bit more about me:

Much of my professional life has been spent as a collaborative composer/arranger, performer, and music director, on projects including:

  • singing tenor with The Crossing (winning Grammys for our albums "Born" and "Ochre")
  • co-directing and composing music for Philadelphia-based experimental theater company Drip Symphony
  • working with Apple Music to arrange backing choir for their live video of YEBBA's "Evergreen." I'm the conductor in the video: https://youtu.be/0v2nhMQmntE?si=IGC0Gx-vDMkDNVma
