Hi! My name is Annika. Welcome to the page! Glad you’re here.

I'm a film composer and classical pianist from Chicago – the forgotten metropolis sitting in the middle of the country. I recently graduated from the Harvard/Berklee College of Music program, where I completed a fun B.A. in Computer Science at Harvard while pursuing a focus in Screen Scoring at Berklee.

Musically, I grew up in a state of “organized chaos”: in one room, my dad played Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, or Bruce Springsteen records while jamming on guitar; in another room, I was at the piano dissecting the first movement of a Mendelssohn concerto, and in another room, my brother ran while listening to the electro-pop sound from the Black Eyed Peas. Being surrounded by many musical palettes, from rock to classical to modern, brought me to film music as a way to continue experiencing them and learn their creative powers when harnessed to picture. Under these influences, I love fusing the classical, orchestral sound heard in some of my favorite scores like “Pride and Prejudice”, “Titanic”, and “Lord of the Rings”, with the electronic landscape heard in other favorites including “Transformers”, “Casino Royale”, and “Man of Steel”.

I have loved collaborating with directors and a creative team on short films and co-producing recording sessions. As a pianist, I am engaged in the beautiful process of bringing out soaring melodies, emotional harmonies, and delicate textures. Whether I am composing orchestral, hybrid, or electronic music, these fundamental elements are ever present in my scores as creative tools to reinforce as well as serve the immersive world-building in a story more deeply. Lately, I am exploring pianistic writing for synths and electronic instruments to weave into hybrid scores and produce intriguing textures.

When taking a mental break from music, you can find me at the gym with friends because I love a good workout! I am also a coffee addict (trying to cut down but not going well) and a city girl so I love being outdoors and exploring my new home of LA!

I’m so excited to keep on writing at USC and I can’t wait to collaborate with other creatives dedicated to storytelling and music!! :)
