Théo Schmitt
Hello! I’m a composer and a conductor from Switzerland currently based in Los Angeles. I studied Orchestral Conducting in my country and composition at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During my early career in Switzerland, I conducted many orchestras and in 2019, I won the 9th Swiss National Conducting Competition. I have already written several original compositions for Film, Web-series, Dance, Brass Band, Wind Band and Symphonic Orchestra, which are available on my website https://www.theoschmitt.com. In 2021, I had the honor to be nominated at the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards. I am now glad to be part of the amazing program of Screen Scoring at the University of Southern California (USC).
Here are a few points about my music: First, I love telling stories. This is why I think I need to compose music for movies. Second, I have a lot of different influences. Though I’ve been classically trained and influenced by great composers of the past, I do feel connected to more modern and popular music, such as swing, rock, and electronic music. I also like to feed my inspiration with traditional music from Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. I love to blend these different styles with my orchestral writing and I like to compose every kind of music. Finally, and it is the most important thing to me, I want to connect people. In other words, with my music, I like to create links between musicians and myself, between pictures and the audience, between reality and dreams.
