Hi, my name is Sean Segal and I'm a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. I am honored to be a part of the Thornton Screen Scoring Class of 2022.
While pursuing my BMA at the University of Michigan, I was fortunate to have my work featured in films such as "My Spy" starring David Bautista, and "Second Act" with Jennifer Lopez. You can listen to my latest work on the new Starz drama, "Heels."
I am proud to be a Mexican-American East LA native. Growing up as the youngest in a family of film professionals, I was exposed to various aspects of the entertainment industry from a young age. I am now thankful for the perspective this has given me on the storytelling process - a perspective I hope to share with talented young filmmakers.
The guitar is my first love and it still finds its way onto many of my compositions and productions. Prior to the pandemic, I was more active as a performing musician in the pop/r&b setting, and I still enjoy bringing that side of myself to my writing.
I once heard that being a film composer is like being a house painter. The painter comes in after the foundation is laid, the walls are up, and the roof is tiled; they can’t make the house any sturdier or grander but they add those finishing touches that amplify the architect’s intent. Similarly, composers work with a director to amplify a film’s emotional core. So, this is my long-winded way of asking for permission to paint your house!
Favorite Composers: Michael Giacchino, Ennio Morricone, Ludwig Goransson, Christophe Beck, Elmer Bernstein, Antonio Carlos Jobim
Other Favorites: Wes Montgomery, Julian Lage, Paul Simon, D'Angelo, The Beatles, Polo & Pan, L'Imperatice
