Sean Sumwalt

Sean Sumwalt (b.1988) is a composer and saxophonist from Muncie, Indiana. He attended Ball State University and Butler University. He earned his BM from Butler University in music composition in 2012.
Sean jumped head first into the world of film composition in 2008 when he answered a mass email to the music students at Ball State requesting a film score for a low budget film. Since then Sean has flooded his schedule with work on thirteen different scores for independent filmmakers and another score for the Ball State Animation Department.
In between projects, Sean has also participated in many workshops like the Marian University (Indianapolis) Film Composition Competition. He was also 1 of 19 composers from the United States, Canada and Europe who were selected to write and record a demo at the intense 10 day 2010 NYU film-scoring workshop. He also participated in the 2011 Transatlantyk Poznan Film Composition Competition. (Sean's entry can be found <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IckFoontb5c>here)
Sean jumps at every opportunity to create scores for sci-fi thrillers and animations. After growing up with video games his entire life he is actively pursuing his entrance into the world of video game music. His favorite video game is, hands down, Metal Gear Solid.
Some great film composers that have pointed him in that direction and shaped his musical palette are Jerry Goldsmith and Bernard Herrmann. Some of Sean's favorite films are the ones that really stir your imagination; two of them being The Matrix and Inception.
Sean believes that adding the right music for film or games is an art, one that takes serious communication and a deep understanding of the script or visual he is writing for. He aspires to do this, not because of fame, but because he truly loves the close collaboration with some great artists.
