Jared Banta

My name is Jared Banta, and I'm a composer from the Boulder, Colorado area. Orchestra film music was my first love back when I was 13 years old. I have also studied and played jazz for about 11 years, and have an undergraduate degree in Jazz Composition.
Since graduating, I spent the next five years working a job training and supervising the grading of math exams, as well as having a bit of success as a freelance crossword puzzle writer. During these years I began writing film music in my spare time, scoring a good many student projects.
I aspire to write music based on strong, memorable ideas: music that explores the depths of the human experience and the complexity of emotion, be it serious or comedic, and that makes some sort of statement and impression on the viewing audience. I love the challenge of writing to picture and incorporating the ideas of the director while staying true to my own voice and writing music that is... well, musical.
I'm extremely honored to have been accepted as a member of the SMPTV class of 2012, and I have been privileged to work closely with some wonderful directors during my time so far at USC. I'm continuously looking for opportunities to produce memorable scores to complement and enhance great film projects.
