Sturdivant Adams

I've played and studied music my whole life. I'm a pianist, and have had a blast playing in rock bands, and jazz ensembles, classical groups, and reggae bands. Some of the most rewarding creative experiences I've had have come from working with others - orchestras, filmmakers, and contemporary music ensembles - to create music that reaches a deep expression of the collective intent. Understanding and then unmasking to illuminate the real intent of a scene or a concept is one of the most rewarding aspects of this work. I'm excited by creating music that breathes - incorporating the human element of live musicians with modern and vintage technology. I'm strongly drawn towards ambitious projects which, when fully realized, embody the expressive world envisioned by the filmmakers.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and studied in New York and England before coming to LA. From 2010 - 2016 I founded and ran a music arranging and transcribing business, in which I worked for GRAMMY winning and nominated artists including Terri Lyne Carrington, Eric Harland, Taylor Eigsti, Julian Lage, and Ambrose Akinmusire. I'm also a contemporary classical composer and conductor, and have had my orchestral music premiered by the Royal Northern Sinfonia, The Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio, the Orchestra for the Earth, and the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2017, I was mentored by composer Claude-Michel Schönberg (Les Misérables). I was the winner of the 2018 U.K. national Young Composers' Competition, an orchestral music competition sponsored by the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
